Synopsis
On 31st July 2004, four people departed in a boat from Finnea, Co. Westmeath to camp out overnight on the shores of Lough Sheelin, Co. Cavan. On the following morning, while returning on the boat to Finnea, one of the party fell overboard. Another party member entered the water in an attempt to rescue the first person but he too got into difficulty. The second person, who entered the water, was subsequently rescued by the two remaining members on the boat but there was no sign of the first person that fell overboard. Divers recovered his body on the following day. Neither personal flotation devices nor lifejackets were being worn by any members of the party on the trip. All times given are local.
