Synopsis
The Fishing Vessel "Spailpín Fánach" sailed from Castletownbere, Co. Cork on the 27th of September 2004 with a crew of three persons onboard. Whilst engaged in fishing operations 11 nautical miles West of the Skellig Islands on the morning of 28th of September, 2004 fire broke out in the engine room and rapidly engulfed the vessel. The crew abandoned the vessel into a Liferaft and were picked up by another Fishing Vessel. No injuries were sustained by her crewmembers. The "Spailpin Fanach" subsequently sank at position 051 46.0 North 010 50.24 West 6 hours later. No pollution occurred.
